September 14th. 

Another MalaMala 7 day! 2 lion sightings: 5 members of the Marthly are feeding off a buffalo cow that they killed yesterday close to Main Camp. The Eyrefield pride and both Matshapiri males were viewed along the Kapen River. 3 leopards: the DOKF 3:3 was on the eastern bank of the Sand River in front of Main Camp. The Island female was at the Causeway. An unidentified male was viewed in eastern Flockfield close to our boundary with the Kruger National Park. 2 cheetah sightings: 1 male was seen in the north and another in the central parts of the property. Cape hunting dogs: the pack of 3 killed an impala in the north. Many elephant sightings were recorded and a herd of buffalo was seen in the south.

September 12th. More fantastic game viewing was enjoyed today with the MalaMala 7 being recorded! Lions: the Eyrefield pride and both Matshapiri males are on a buffalo kill at Flockfield Boma Crossing. 5 leopards: the Treehouse male and DOKF 3:3 were viewed together on the eastern bank of the Sand River opposite Main Camp. Both Cubs of the Kikilezi female were seen west of Main Camp. An unidentified female was seen along the most northern reaches of the Matshapiri River. Cape hunting dogs: the pack of 3 killed a nyala in the central parts of our property. Cheetah: 2 males killed a young zebra in Wild Dog Rocks Open Area. A herd of buffalo and many elephant sightings were also recorded today.

 

September 11th. 3 lion sightings: the Eyrefield pride and both Matshapiri males killed a buffalo in front of Rattray’s Camp. The 3 Styx lionesses and 2 Gowrie males were seen on Nyati Road. The 2 Clarendon males were viewed just west of Main Camp and they chased the Kikilezi female leaped off her young waterbuck kill. 5 leopards: the DOKF was seen just west of where the Kikilezi female was. The Treehouse male was at Maurice’s Pan. The Tamboti female and her daughter, the Island female, were seen together at West Street Bridge. Cheetah: 2 males were viewed in Clarendon Open Area.

 

Many elephants and buffalo sightings were recorded on both days.

 

September 10th. 2 lion sightings: the 3 Eyrefield lioness, 2 Matshapiri males and their 4 cubs were viewed near West Street Bridge. 2 unidentified lions (male and female) were seen in front of Main Camp. 5 leopards: both cubs of the Kikilezi female were a ways west of Main Camp. The Treehouse male and Island female were mating just south of Main Camp. The DOKF 3:3 was found at Lower Mlowathi Crossing.

 

 

 

September 9th. 2 lion sightings: the Eyrefield pride and both Matshapiri males killed a young buffalo at Confluence Crossing. The Styx pride and 2 Gowrie males are also on a buffalo kill near Wild Dog Rocks. 4 leopards: the Treehouse male and Island female are still mating – now just west of Main Camp. The DOKF 3:3 was just south of Main Camp. The Kililezi female was seen at Matumi Rocks. Cape hunting dogs: the pack of 22 provided us with some adrenaline pumping action as we followed them on 2 successful hunts- bushbuck being the victims on both occasions. 2 herds of buffalo were seen as well as many elephant sightings.

 

September 8th. Lions: the Eyrefield lionesses and their 4 cubs where in the company of the 2 Matshapiri males at Confluence Crossing. 5 leopards: the Accipiter male is on an impala kill at Pat’s Drift Koppies. The Treehouse male is mating with the Island female just south of Main Camp. The DOKF 3:3 has an impala kill on the eastern bank of the Sand River opposite Main Camp. The Kikilezi female was viewed west of Main Camp. A herd of buffalo drank from the Sand River in front of Main Camp. Many elephants were also viewed today.
