Highlights of the week

July 11th. Lions: the Eyrefield pride and one of the Matshapiri males are still feeding off their buffalo cow kill near Styx Waterhole- another herd of buffalo did approach the area and despite having full stomachs the lions ran in on the herd but missed. 9 leopards: the Treehouse male is mating with the Island female. The Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs are still feeding off their impala kill from yesterday and so is the DOKF 3:3. The Tamboti female and her cub were near our Airstrip. The Bicycle Crossing male was also viewed. 1 herd of buffalo and many elephant sightings were recorded.

July 10th. 2 lion sightings: the Eyrefield pride and one of the Matshapiri males were found with a buffalo cow kill near Styx Waterhole. The other Matshapiri male wasn’t too far away and had a buffalo kill of his own. 6 leopards: the Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were viewed in the Manyelethi River with an impala kill. The Tamboti female and her cub were found near Maxim’s Lookout also with an impala. The DOKF 3:3 was in Piccadilly Triangle with guess what…. an impala kill! A herd of buffalo and many elephants were seen today as well as a serval with a genet kill AND a very relaxed pangolin- we watched in awe as it foraged out in the open for a lengthy period of time before it retreated into some thicker vegetation.

July 9th. 2 lion sightings: the Eyrefield pride were found along Piccadilly Road feeding off a buffalo carcass- this evening we watched them run in several times on a herd of buffalo but with no luck . Both Matshapiri males were viewed not too far away from the Eyrefield Pride. 4 leopards: the son of the Ostrich Koppies female was also viewed in the same area as the lions- this is the furthest south we’ve seen this young male. The Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were viewed in the Manyelethi River. 3 herds of buffalo were seen as well as many elephant sightings.

July 8th. 3 lion sightings: 2 sub adult males from the Marthly pride were viewed close to Main Camp again. The Eyrefield pride and the 1 of the Matshapiri males were seen separately in Flockfield. 4 leopards: the Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were at their den in the Manyelethi River. The Bicycle Crossing male was viewed near Styx Waterhole. Cape hunting dogs: the pack of 3 was seen at Tslebe Rocks. 2 herds of buffalo and many elephant sightings were also recorded.

July 7th. 3 lion sightings: 2 sub adult males from the Marthly pride were viewed close to Main Camp. The Eyrefield pride and the 2 Matshapiri males were seen separately in Flockfield- the latter were feeding off a buffalo calf kill. 4 leopards: the Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were at their den in the Manyelethi River. The Island female was also viewed today in the Ngoboswaan Donga. Sable antelope: A herd of 9 was found at Styx Waterhole. 2 herds of buffalo were viewed as well as many elephant sightings.

July 6th. 6 leopards: the Tamboti female killed an adult male impala. The Bicycle Crossing male is still feeding on his bushbuck kill. The Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were at their den in the Manyelethi River. The Island female was also found with a kill of her own. 2 herds of buffalo were viewed as well as many elephants. A serval was seen at Confluence Crossing. We’re loving the amount of relaxed servals and civets that we’ve been seeing lately!

July 5th. 2 lion sightings: the Eyrefield pride and both Matshapiri males spent the day in the central parts of our property. 1 Gowrie male was seen in the north. 3 leopards: the Bicycle Crossing male is on a bushbuck kill in the south. The Tamboti female and her cub were also viewed. 8 ostriches were seen in the north as well as a serval. 3 herds of buffalo and many elephants were also viewed.
