July 4th.
3 lion sightings: the Styx pride were still feeding off their kudu kill west of Mlowathi Dam. 2 sub adult male lions from the Marthly pride were close to Main Camp. The Eyrefield pride were found near Styx Rocks. 6 leopards: the Treehouse male was with the Kikilezi female and her/their 2 cubs in the Manyelethi River- who said leopards were solitary?! The Tamboti female and her cub were at their den with a duiker kill which ended up being stolen by a hyena. A herd of buffalo was also viewed as well as many elephant sightings.
July 1st. Leopards: the Tamboti female and her cub were viewed at their den east of our Airstrip. The Treehouse male was found feeding off a bushbuck kill. The Kikilezi female was hunting impala in front of Main Camp. A large herd of buffalo and many elephant sightings were recorded. 4 ostriches were also viewed at Clarendon Open Area.
June 30th. 3 lion sightings: the Fourways pride were found in eastern Flockfield with an adult sable bull kill- a rare sight indeed. The Eyrefield pride were hunting buffalo bulls near West Street. The 2 Matshapiri males were involved in a roaring match with other male lions in the north eastern section of our property. 8 leopards: the Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were in the Manyelethi River west of Main Camp. The Island female was still feeding off her bushbuck kill west of Main Camp. A No ID male was also viewed close to Main Camp. Another nervous No ID male was on a kill along the Mlhabatini Donga. The Tamboti female was hunting around the Old Airstrip. A third No ID male was viewed in south western Charleston. 4 herds of buffalo and many elephants were also seen.
June 29th. 9 leopards: an unidentified large male is on a waterbuck calf kill in the south. The Treehouse male was north of Rattray’s Camp. The Emsagweni female was found on Mlhabatini Road. The Island female has a bushbuck kill just west of Main Camp. The Tamboti female and her cub are at their den west of our Airstrip. The Kikilezi female and her 2 cubs were east of Manyelethi Crossing. 2 lion sightings: one of the Matshapiri males has discovered the carcass of a dead hippo in the Sand River south of West Street Bridge. The other Matshapiri male is with the Eyrefield pride east of Donald’s Crossing. Cheetah: the 2 brothers were in the north. 5 herds of buffalo and many elephant sightings were also viewed.
June 28th. 2 lion sightings: 1 Gowrie male and 4 unidentified lionesses are on a buffalo kill north of Clarendon Dam. The Eyrefield pride and 2 Matshapiri males were near Lion Waterhole. 5 leopards: the Tamboti female and her cub were at their den just east of our Airstrip. The Kikilezi female spent the whole day hunting in front of Main Camp. The Treehouse male is in the process of expanding his territory eastwards- filling the void left by the Airstrip male. The DOKF 2:2 was east of Mlowathi Dam. Sable antelope: a lone bull was seen in the Sand River near West Street Bridge. 2 herds of buffalo and many elephants sightings were also recorded.
